The City Office consists of seven different departments and has a total of about 300 employees. Our departments work in a wide range of areas, and the administration has many employees with high specialist competence. We are now looking for a director for our sustainability department.
About the Workplace
The Sustainability Department consists of two units: Safety and Preparedness and Local Development and Security. The units are led by two unit managers who report to you, and a total of around 50 employees work in the department.
The department's areas of responsibility include:
- The City of Malmö's work with preparedness, security, and safety
- The City of Malmö's strategic work with Agenda 2030
- The City of Malmö's work with national minorities, anti-discrimination, gender mainstreaming, children's rights, and public health
- The City of Malmö's support to civil society and the non-profit sector, focused efforts in local development
- City-wide methods for internal control
- Crimes against welfare
You will report directly to the city director and be part of the City Office's management team, where you are expected to take significant responsibility for the overall mission of the City Office to lead, coordinate, and oversee the entire city's operations.
Job Responsibilities
As the director and head of the sustainability department, you will be a very important part of the continued development of the City of Malmö. You have overall responsibility for the department's operations and create clarity, direction, and structure around the issues the department is responsible for, both internally and externally. A proactive approach is required to create the right conditions and favorable collaboration on these issues, including through several partnerships at both national and international levels. You work to achieve goals and results and, together with your department, strengthen these areas in the city's operations.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with extensive experience in qualified management roles and experience working in a politically governed organization, preferably within municipal operations. You are accustomed to acting at a strategic level, skilled at navigating complex contexts, and are an experienced change leader. You have previously held management positions where you have successfully led through other managers, with a strong ability to create direction and clarity, well balanced with responsiveness and humility. As a manager, you are stable, development- and results-oriented, with the ability to develop organizations where processes and a holistic perspective are in focus. Your skill in adapting your communication to the situation and target audience creates conditions for successful collaborations, both internally within the city and externally. You have an academic education in a relevant field and are proficient in Swedish and English, both spoken and written. The City of Malmö's organization has high competence and a professional approach. At the same time, the organization is characterized by a closeness where it is natural for us to help each other and where employees feel a high level of involvement and great pride in their work.
